beautiful mahi and thank you for sharing images of your kakahu in progress – very helpful. I am in the early stages of planning my first Korowai and will begin harvesting and prep at the end of summer. I’m both nervous and excited at the prospect.

Kia Ora joy. Your mahi is absolutely beautiful. I wish I had your talent and skills to weave like you do with the traditional materials. I’ve just weaved my first mini korowai (soon to be framed) with mop string and chicken feathers and I loved it. Keep up the awesome mahi. I’ll be following your blog for inspiration.

  Muka is beautiful to work with. I love the feeling of the silky fibers in my hands. There is nothing quite like it.
  It helps that I had a great teacher, Veranoa Hetet, who now also teaches ‘On Line’ at https://hetetschoolofmaoriart.com/ She really inspired, encouraged and challenged me.
  Good luck with your weaving. Have fun and I hope you continue to enjoy the satisfaction of completing a project.

    Thank you for your words. I will have a look at the website you mentioned. I’d love to know how to make and work with muka, where to source it from and how to pick it. I’ve got a lot of research and learning to do. My weaving journey has only just begun and I’m already so excited about it.
