Nothing is wasted
After completing the brown hieke I discovered I had enough left over to make a child sized one. I am very happy with the result.
The whenu is cotton from my not so local Ship Chandler.
The hukahuka are harakeke and neinei.
I love the shapes and natural colour of the neinei. They are the fallen leaves, collected from the ground and used as they are. After splitting them to the width required, I softened the ends so that they would bend not split and allow me to whatu over them. I did this by standing the tapering ends of the leaves in hot water.
